instead of...

yesterday, when wes left for work...addy played in her room, then fell asleep for 2 hours after crying for half an hour (i tried to comfort her, but she just cried harder when i left, which broke my mama heart). then amelia attempted to nurse, but instead fell asleep after 7 minutes of eating.

so instead of taking advantage of both girls napping & going off to take a nap myself...i worried. that amelia wasn't eating enough. that amelia wasn't awake enough. that amelia was sleeping too much. that amelia wasn't gaining enough weight. that amelia wouldn't like her nickname (millie). then i worried that addy was feeling neglected. that addy was missing her mama-play-time. that addy wasn't getting enough play time in general. that addy was eating too much processed foods since amelia arrived. that addy will begin to be jealous of amelia. SERIOUSLY!

by the time wes got home, i was a basket case of anxiety. he asked what happened, how many meltdowns & i had to tell him that it went pretty good overall & it was just me being stupid.

at amelia's one week appointment with the pediatrician, we asked about how much amelia sleeps, the (little) amount she eats, & her weight gain (she was 6.4 on tuesday). the ped kindly whispered "she's NORMAL" & mentioned something about addy NOT being normal as a baby (for those who don't know: addy was awake, alert, crying or needing to be fed most of the day & slept probably 10 hours a day the first 2 months in half hour segments...she was not colicky, just "active or spirited." she also didn't want to be cuddled, so we had to be very inventive on ways to stimulate her & then how to calm her down). so now we are just in SHOCK & AWE that this is a normal baby; i still keep thinking that she is sleeping too much or not eating enough (obviously, just read above). i have asked my friend, judy, several times if this really is normal (& asked my mom & i have even thought about sending out an email to all my mama friends to get more reassurances that this is, in fact, normal) & judy says yes, her boys slept this much & ate this much... it's just hard to believe. BUT, i am happy that she is this way; i just need to get used to it.

so...hopefully today i will take a nap instead of worrying.

Sleep, mama, sleep!! All is well. You have pulled Addy through her infantile trials, and now you are blessed with sleep!!

Enjoy!

Please take a nap and enjoy the rest. Your mom has great words of wisdom in her comment.
And....
Guess what??...Addy will not be traumatized by this period in her life, in fact, she really wont remember this period...just ask Andrew if he remembered when Owen was born. Your love for her hasn't changed and she knows that. I saw it yesterday. Everything will be ok and she will grow up loving her sister and mommy and daddy regardless of how many chicken nuggets she has had. You are doing great. Don't be too hard on yourself sista.

I did exactly the same thing with Audrey. One moment I'd worry that she was awake too much and needed to take a nap, then I'd worry that she was sleeping too much, then would worry about food intake. She is normal, don't worry. The first few weeks we did everything to try and keep Audrey awake during feedings because she kept falling asleep so we'd undress her to wake her up and continue to tickle her toes, etc. You are a wonderful mommy to be so focused on the well-being and happiness of your girls. Just enjoy her sleepyness now because soon enough she'll "wake up" and demand more attention. Audrey would eat, then just sleep away until it was time for her next feeding and there were only a few minutes of awake time per session.

I think it is the new mommy hormones that make you worry like that; I thought I was going to never be able to relax, let alone sleep after c&z were born....even when they were being quite good and sleeping! You are doing great and you got a peaceful baby just like you hoped, rest and relax, you deserve it! Also, need I say sometimes they will cry...and that is ok, you can only do one thing at a time. Two babies, one mama, but you'll be at your best after you rest!
